Today I noticed that on my site's home page the latest post was showing from May 30 although I have had several posts in June and July. Direct links to the "missing" posts worked fine. I could not also see the changes I made to a page.
The first thing that occurred to me was a caching issue and I checked the Falcon engine. It was disabled. I contacted the ISP, sent a message to site subscribers that I was having a problem with the site and asked them to be patient as I pursued the solutions.
The ISP offered to restore from a backup and I was copying my wp-contents folder just in case. I thought of checking the .htaccess file and the root of the problem became obvious. Although Wordfence disabled the Falcon engine for some reason the htaccess file did not get modified. I enabled the Falcon engine which made me a copy of the current htaccess file, then I disabled it again. I am not sure if it has any value, but I can send you the htaccess file when I was experiencing problems. Let me know if you want to see this file.
My site is now working as it did before, showing the latest post on the home page as it should. It may be worth looking into under what conditions the file may not be updated to save potential grief to others in the future.
This does not diminish the value of Wordfence for me, I thought I would add that for information. Just a hiccup!
