Updated plugin, now stuck on “Scan Failed”

Hello. I have been using the free version of Wordfence for years with no problems. Last night I updated the plugin (which I keep up to date regularly), now all of a sudden I am getting the “Scan Failed” error with his message: “The scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself.”

I’ve gone through all the troubleshooting steps (https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/troubleshooting/#if-your-scans-arent-starting) but none of them are applicable or fixing the problem:
-Starting scans remotely did not fix it.
-I have no “under construction” plugins running, and none of my other plugins are causing the issue (with no conflicts before this latest update).
-No password protection on wp-admin.
-Your IP range is not blocked from reaching my site (I have not blocked any IPs other than those Wordfence blocks on it’s own).
-I have checked the database tables, none have crashed or need repair.
-I checked the AJAX handler and it’s working as it should.

I haven’t done anything to the site other than create posts and pages – nothing has changed other than updating the plugin.

I also see that on the Diagnostics page, under Connectivity, I have this error, which I don’t know if it is related:
wp_remote_post() test back to this server failed! Response was: 404 Not Found
This additional info may help you diagnose the issue. The response headers we received were: (I can provide the big block of code it’s showing here if you need it).

Can someone please help me figure out what the problem is? I’m a front end HTML programmer and do not know how to begin troubleshooting these sorts of backend and database issues. Thank you!

Hello,

I can’t choose Humans, bots or what so ether. There is no more list.
And there is no Activity details.

I restored by defaults but nothing changed.
Is there a problem with other plugins ?

MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress
Really Simple SSL

Referral Spams

I’ve installed WordFence for a while now. For the past few months my website is under constant attack by referral spams (million hits per month). I was trying to figure out how to solve this, tried many methods and none works. I read that WordFence do help blocking out these spams, but apparently it didn’t. Is there any settings that I missed to block them out?

Hi
I have 2 site in Wordfence Central , one[miriammibao.com
] is auto scanned everyday , but the other[we-in.tk] has last one scan on February 10, 2020 which is I started scanned manually.
I’m not sure is it normal or should I set up something for [we-in.tk] to execute scan everyday?

Here are several screenshots what I’m confused:

EXPORT ALL IPs generates blank .txt file

Under BLOCKING, i now have a list of over 25 Blocked IP Ranges
Was looking to keep a backup and so selected all the statements and tried EXPORT ALL IPS
It asked me to save the .txt file
When i opened the file to check, it was empty

Further, mustn’t there be an IMPORT along-with the EXPORT, just incase all my statements go blank and i need to import them back..?
(i’m having a lot of hacking attempts to our website. Some days, i’m adding around 10 IP Ranges in the Blocking List)

Hope you can resolve this
God bless~

Wordfence Central, loads of Connection issues

Hey guys

So I logged into my central today and saw that 6 sites were working, and over 30 were in the Connection issues tab.

The connection issue is stated as: Timeout

Looking through the last scan column, it seems all of them are yesterday. So I am not sure what caused the problem, perhaps a server issue on my side, perhaps not, who knows at this point.

All I know is that right now, the websites are working absolutely fine but if I click retry connection, it fails with the message: An error occurred and we were unable to load the data from the server.

1. Any ideas, why it could be that so many are failing, even though the site is active and I can browse to the wordfence plugin on each site and everything looks fine?

Sidenote: If I browse to the plugin directly, then go back to central and retry connection, it works.

2. There really needs to be a “retry all” button on central added i think….

Wordfence is disabled but still giving warnings?

I’ve exported site files from a standalone WP site so that I can import them into a subsite on a WP multisite. I’m using the native WP export/import tool.

After exporting the file (4.5 MB) I make the upload attempt to the destination subsite, but get a Wordfence warning about a potentially unsafe operation. I then disable Wordfence on the multisite (on the entire network, not just the subsite) and try again. Same warning. I clear server cache and try again. Same problem. I then disable Wordfence on the site that I am exporting FROM, and export all content again, then try to import the XML file onto the subsite once more. Again the same problem.

At this point Wordfence doesn’t exist on either site, yet is still throwing a warning and refusing to allow me to import the file. My upload limit size is 5 MB so I know that’s not the issue. I’ve done this operation successfully on this multisite earlier today with smaller XML files.

How is it possible for WF to be giving warnings and preventing operations when it doesn’t even exist on either site any longer?

my wordfence always failed to scan this error shows ” The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 14 mins ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or stop and restart the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably. Click here for steps you can try. ”

I’m trying to access a member section of a website that I have a paid subscription to and I got this error message from Wordfence: “You are temporarily locked out You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to log in for a while.”

What do you mean by “a while”? 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 100 years? There’s no way to reset password and bypass this? I mean come on, help please!

Low resource scanning – not Low at all

First a suggestion:
when starting a scan, would it be possible to have a “PAUSE SCAN” button and then “CONT. SCAN” and not just a “STOP SCAN”?

I use in Performance Options – “Use low resource scanning”
and yet while watching on my hosting provider the Statistics, I see warnings during the scan of I/O:
I/O Usage
975 KB/s / 1 MB/s (95.21%)
Any chance to slow the I/O down if this option is checked ?
PS: When stopping the scan, I/O goes down to 12%, so the load it coming from Wordfence.

Feature request:
would it be possible to scan each installed plugin to coderisk.com, like you do with wordpress.org?
https://coderisk.com/wp/plugin/wordfence
yours looks pretty good, but others do not look good at all and a warning might be really good.

Cannot Fully Install WordFence

I get the following when I try to install WordFence.

Wordfence could not register with the Wordfence scanning servers when it activated. You can try to fix this by deactivating Wordfence and then activating it again, so Wordfence will retry registering for you. If you keep seeing this error, it usually means your WordPress server can’t connect to our scanning servers, or your wfConfig database table cannot be created to save the key. You can try asking your host to allow your server to connect to noc1.wordfence.com or check the wfConfig database table and database privileges.

I’ve tried deactivating and reactivating, but no luck.

I checked my database, and the WF tables are not being created.

How do I resolve this? It is happening on about 7 of my sites on the same server.

Live Traffic Not Working

I have no ‘Live Traffic’ view. It was there, now it isn’t.

I’ve tried deactivating all plugins, and changing the theme to a default WordPress one. but no change.

The weird thing is, if I reload the Live Traffic page I can very briefly see the Live Traffic interface (i.e. it flashes on the screen), but then it vanishes again.

Everything is switched on that should be on to see Live Traffic, and I don’t have an Ad blocker on either.

Any ideas please?

Increased attack on my site, from my site?

I’m receiving WordFence emails regarding increased attack rates. The weird thing is that the User IP and User Hostname match the IP/raw hosting subdomain (e.g., p12345678.dreamhost.com) of the server hosting the site.

What does this mean and how do I block this type of traffic?

One last thing, we do have a third party service scan this site for security holes as well. This doesn’t seem like the a likely rationale, but figured I’d mention it.

Thanks.

Can’t unblock a blocked admin

Hi, I have the free version, and am using the setting to lockout any user that uses an invalid username. My other admin did so today and got locked out. In reading the documentation for this plugin, it says I should be able to give them access again by unblocking them: “If a legitimate user is locked out you can find and delete any currently active block on the Wordfence Firewall > Blocking page.” But I do not see their ip address on the blocking page. I only see their ip address on the Live Traffic page where it shows they were locked out for using the wrong admin username. There is no option here to unblock them. Is our only choice to wait out the four hours??
